Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), the synthetic analog of the pineal-gland extract epithalamin, developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It is the most extensively studied telomerase-associated geroprotective peptide and is characterized by an ultra-low-concentration response profile.
It is a central reference in the longevity category, studied for its role in models of telomerase activity and cellular aging.

Mechanism
Epithalon is characterized as operating through a receptor-independent, epigenetic mechanism — entering the nucleus, binding specific DNA sequences and histones, and decondensing chromatin so that silenced genes become transcribable.
It is reported to engage the hTERT promoter to upregulate telomerase, with downstream stimulation of melatonin synthesis, antioxidant defense, and circadian-clock genes.
