The Dossier

Research Notes

ARA-290, also known as cibinetide, is a synthetic eleven-amino-acid peptide modeled on the helix-B surface domain of erythropoietin. Unlike full-length erythropoietin, it is non-hematopoietic — engineered to isolate the molecule's tissue-protective signaling from its blood-cell activity.

Research interest centers on its selective engagement of the innate repair receptor, a complex expressed by tissues under stress rather than at rest. It is offered strictly as a laboratory reference compound.

Research Focus

  • Neuropathic pain and small-fiber neuropathy models
  • Metabolic and insulin-signaling models
  • Cardiovascular and inflammatory-aging models
  • Tissue-protection and repair signaling
  • Mitochondrial and cytoprotection research

Mechanism

ARA-290 selectively binds the innate repair receptor — a heterocomplex of the erythropoietin receptor and the CD131 beta-common receptor — which is upregulated locally in response to injury, hypoxia, or metabolic stress rather than in healthy tissue. It does not engage the receptor form responsible for red-blood-cell production.

Receptor engagement has been characterized as initiating JAK2-mediated signaling across STAT, PI3K/Akt, and MAPK pathways, alongside attenuation of NF-κB-driven inflammatory signaling.
