Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that makes it markedly more resistant to peptidase degradation. It is devoid of hormonal corticotropic activity and was developed at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

It is a leading reference in the cognitive category, studied for neurotrophic and neuroprotective signaling in laboratory models.
